SUMMARY:WZCC’s commitment to Health & Happiness
DESCRIPTION:Event held on Saturday\, April 29th\, 2017 from 10.30 am to 2.00 pm. \nHeld on the grounds of The Green Pocket nursery school owned by our Committee Member\, Anahita Batha. \nThe event was organised by the Committee to give its members an insight into Fitness for everyday living. We invited five professionals who held an interactive session with our members and their guests through a very informative and enjoyable afternoon. \nGodrej Rustumji – Safety and Self Defence \nGodrej is a WZCC member of the Bangalore Chapter and is an International Close Protection Officer catering to foreign national protection in India. He is also a firearm instructor. Godrej held the audience’s attention with some verbal pointers on how to be alert and observe one’s surroundings along with exciting self defence manoeuvres with volunteers from the audience. We saw quite a demand for more such sessions in the future. \n[foogallery id=”5680″] \nDr Prathap – Chiropractor \nDr. Prathap is one of 10 practicing chiropractors in all of India and has his own wellness centre in Indiranagar. Originally from Canada\, Dr. Prathap completed his doctorate in new York and strongly believes that prevention is the best cure for any health related issues. \nMany in the audience were not aware of what and how a Chiropractor works\, so the talk by Dr. Prathap was enlightening to many. He brought along “Alfred”\, his partner in crime (!) – a skeletal spine\, to explain the physiology angle of his work. He demonstrated a few exercises that all of us could do on a daily basis to reduce the stress of long hours at a desk. His light humour entertained the audience through the 20 minutes he was on the dais. \n[foogallery id=”5682″] \nSiddharth & Shaila – Fitness Trainer & Zumba Instructor \nSiddharth comes from an IT background but decided to switch careers because he wanted to help people live a healthier lifestyle. He is a Crossfit Level 2 coach and a personal trainer who also helps in rehabilitation workouts for sports injuries. \nShaila is a Zumba instructor and full of life and vitality. \nSiddharth took the audience through the necessities of working out and remaining fit\, showing the audience what can be done even if one does not have the facilities of a gym. \nShaila took us through a fun Zumba workout which got everyone ready for eats. \n[foogallery id=”5686″] \nFarzin Sholapurwala – Certified Yoga Therapist and Trainer \nFarzin is a Life Member of the WZCC and has been practicing yoga for the last 15 years. She had found her own yoga centre and taught over 7100 students till date. She took the audience through some breathing techniques for glowing skin\, the benefits of yoga and then practised the Suryanamaskar along with members of the audience who were keen to know the correct way of performing it. \n[foogallery id=”5690″] \nRed Fork had arranged the snacks \nA Millet Salad and a Pasta Salad\, two kinds of sandwiches and baked yoghurt with granola. Everyone enjoyed it thoroughly and Chef Xerxes spent time explaining how one should eat a balanced meal\, avoid yo-yo diets and how millets are the new in ingredient and can be used in many ways. \n[foogallery id=”5692″] \n  \nDespite the small numbers\, it was a successful event.

SUMMARY:WZCC VANCOUVER BC CHAPTER MEETING
DESCRIPTION:MINUTES OF THE MEETING \nDATE: SUNDAY 11th June\, 2017 \nTIME: 2:00 TO 3:00 PM \nLOCATION: Arbab Rostam Guiv Dar-e-Mehr\, 6900 Halifax Street\, Burnaby\, BC. \nWZCC Directors thank ZSBC Board of Directors and Arbab Rostam Guiv Foundation for the use of facilities. \nATTENDEES: Total 22 including the speaker. \nThe meeting was called to order at 2:10 pm. \nKayras Irani introduced the speaker Mrs. Fi Dastoor \nSince a young age Fi Dastoor has volunteered for a variety of projects and activities. Fi has been associated with CYBF (Canadian Youth Business Foundation) since 2003. CYBF is now called Futurepreneur. She was introduced to CYBF via CESO (Canadian Executive Service Organization) which she joined in 1988. Her career spans over thirty years in the technology industry. In the latter years she has her own business – Dastoor Consulting doing a variety of projects from the medical industry to the technology industry. Fi was associated with the telecommunications industry for many years. \nWith Futurepreneur Fi has mentored quite a few young entrepreneurs who went on to run their own successful businesses. \nHer other volunteer activities include being an Ambassador to the Vancouver Opera and assisting them in any office/technology related work. \nDetails of presentation on Mentorship: \n-What is a mentor\, how does one become a mentor and what is involved in mentoring young business entrepreneurs \nA mentor is a person who has expertise in a specific field and enjoys assisting someone with their venture in this specific field.  A mentor is also a person who enjoys helping young entrepreneurs (age range 18 to 35 years) with their business.  Businesses\, for example\, could range from fitness studios\, events planner\, restaurant\, ballet studio\, setting up shops\, setting up a daycare\, starting freelance work etc.  Getting in touch with Futurepreneur and submitting a resume is the first steps involved in becoming a business mentor. \n– What are the steps involved for a mentor with Futurepreneur (business mentor) \nAfter an interview with Futurepreneur a seminar is arranged as introduction and what is expected of a mentor.  The seminar can be done on-line at one’s own pace and time. Most mentors have to have some business knowledge and basic accounting experience.  If a mentor does not have experience in certain areas that is required for a specific business\, Futurepreneur will try and find a person who has the expertise and is available to assist.  This is a volunteer position and the time devoted to any project is mutually agreed upon by the mentor and mentee. \n– How does a mentor and protégé (mentee) negotiate a good fit \nWhen the on-line course is completed\, Staff at Futurepreneur will then set up the mentor with a mentee who is starting up a business. A mentor can also be asked to help an existing business in progress.  The mentor will then set up an initial meeting with the mentee at a mutually convenient date. If both parties – the mentor and mentee – feel there is a good fit and they could work together\, the mentor contacts Futurepreneur to say there is a good fit with the mentee.  If it is not a good fit another mentee will be found for the mentor to assist in setting up of the business. Government of Canada provides a loan of $15\,000 without interest for two years to mentee. \n– What is involved for the mentor to keep in touch with the mentee \nMinimum time required of a mentor to help a mentee is approximately 10 hours per month for a term of two years.  In some cases more time per month maybe required and in other cases less time is required.  Contact with a mentee can be done via email\, phone or face to face meetings. Every three months a report is submitted by both the mentor and mentee showing any updates\, time spent and achievement to date with regard to the business. \n– What constitute a successful business operation \nFuturepreneur deems a business successful if it is still in operation after two years and also when the loan of $15K is paid back. The loan is usually paid back when the business shows a profit and the owner of the business is able to make a minimum payment. \n– The term and length a mentor is associated with a mentee \nTwo years is the duration a mentor has to assist and help a mentee with their respective business. In order to assist with the business a mentor maybe asked for any type of involvement that is required to make the business a success.  A mentor should advise and direct a mentee in the direction towards making the business a success especially if it appears that the business is going off the rails or not following the business plan. \n– Wrapping up a contract between mentor and mentee. \nJust before two years\, the mentor is alerted by Futurepreneur to inform that the contract is coming to an end.  The mentor may be asked to submit a final report regarding the business and whether is shows signs of being a success and if the mentee can manage on their own. \nThe mentor is then asked if they wish to start another project with a new mentee or take a little break. \nThe session ended with discussions\, and question and answer session at 2:50 pm. \nAubtin Yazdgardian offered a vote of thanks to Mrs. Fi Dastoor and presented her a book as a token of appreciation. \nRefreshments were served. \nMinutes Prepared by: Homi Italia Date: 15 June 2017

Ferzaan become an independent entrepreneur four years ago and cofounded two companies which are described below. \n  \n  \n\nMedwell Ventures (medwellventures.com) offers home healthcare services under the Nightingales brand (nightingales.in)\nCytecare Hospitals (cytecare.com) is one of India’s only organ-based cancer hospitals and is super-specialized in various surgeries\, radiation techniques and chemotherapies. The flagship project was a 150-bed hospital launched six months ago in Bangalore. Ferzaan is a great supporter of the WZCC and we eagerly look forward to having him as our speaker on the evening of December 15th 2017.\n\n  \nOur Guest co-ordinater for the Leadership Games is Zerbanoo Gifford\, an author\, a human rights campaigner and founder of the ASHA Centre\, which pioneers youth empowerment in the fields of sustainable development\, interfaith dialogue and the arts. She holds the International Woman of the Year Award 2006 for her humanitarian work\, which spans fifty years of grassroots and global activism. As the Artistic Director of the ASHA Centre\, he has run numerous drama-based programmes with young people from all over the world including one play that was created with young South Africans and presented to Nelson Mandela at his home. \nAnd to give you all a heads up\, here’s something on the Bangalore Parsees The need to establish an Anjuman in Bangalore was felt by the Parsee Zoroastrians in the first quarter of this Century\, when in the year 1922\, after two or three preliminary meetings\, they inaugurated the Bangalore Parsee Zoroastrian Anjuman. Even though the first recorded settlement of the Parsees in Bangalore was in 1880\, it took nearly 42 years for the Parsee Zoroastrian population to increase sufficiently to fill this long felt need. \nThe newly established Anjuman then took over the management of the then existing “Ararmgah” which had been in existence since 1892\, when on the death of Seth Muncherji Dosabhoy Cama\, the Parsee residents of Bangalore obtained a plot of land from the Mysore State Government to bury their dead community members. \nEver since then\, as more and more assets were added\, the responsibilities of the Anjuman also increased. Gradually the local community also felt the need for a Fire Temple and a Tower of Silence. Thus in the year 1924-25\, Late Seth Dinshaw Cawasji came forward with a donation to the Anjuman to build a “Daremeher” for Bangalore Zoroastrians. Well-known personalities who took a leading part in this project were Late Seth Meherwanji Maneckji\, Late Seth Nusserwanii Mirza\, Late Seth Kaikhushroo Belgaumvala and Late Seth Rustomji and Nusserwanji Boyce. A year later the Anjuman built a community Hall for religious ceremonies at the “Aramgah” at a cost of Rs.5\,000/- and which amount was donated to the Anjuman by the Late Bai Pirojbai Fakirji Chaina\, for this specific purpose. \nSubsequently as the Zoroastrian population of Bangalore increased\, structures like the Lady Jehangir Kothari Memorial Hall\, the Tower of Silence\, the B.J. Entee Dharmashala \n \n  \nand the Kothari Hall Annexe were added to the assets of the Anjuman.and the Kothari Hall Annexe were added to the assets of the Anjuman.\nToday we number a mere 450-500 in number but constantly strive at keeping this community alive with events\, gatherings and preservation of our assets.   “Entrepreneurship is the pursuit of opportunity beyond the resources currently controlled.”

Major (Retd)\, urging all members\, especially the youth\, to make the most of the opportunities that WZCC offered; specifically a worldwide network of members\, mentors in almost every field of life to assist with start ups and small businesses and the most recent Finance opportunities that the WZCC has initiated with the assistance of the WZO. \n  \nCommittee Member Anahita Jassawala then took over to outline the program for the morning.  Participants were asked to sit opposite someone they did not know\, professionally.  A series of six questions would be asked of the participants and the answers needed to be discussed with the person opposite in an attempt to learn more about each other.  Each question was allotted ten minutes for discussion.  The participants changed seats after every question so that by the end of the session\, each participant had got acquainted and knew a little more about six of their fellow members. \n  \nThe questions were : \n  \nQ1.      What do you do professionally ? \nQ2.      What are some of your favorite things to read/watch/do for inspiration? \nQ3.      What inspired you to get into your current line of work? \n Q4.      Do you have a morning/evening ritual that you follow and recommend to others? \n Q5.      If you would have dinner with anyone dead/alive/real/imaginary\, who would it be and why? \n Q6.      What’s something you wish to accomplish before this year is over? \n  \nThe participants were very actively involved in this networking and almost sorry that the session ended after two hours.  Shernaz Siganporia\, the Secretary of the Bangalore Chapter\, then informed the members that we would continue to have such sessions and increase the membership of the Chapter.  She also reminded everyone that our Chapter is holding the Charity Night Bazar on the 4th of August and that we need maximum participation and support for it\, to encourage the children who are spearheading this event. \n  \nThere was great positive feedback from all the participants and we managed to get five new members to the Chapter.  Further sessions will be built around the five pillars of WZCC namely; Networking\, mentorship\, Industry Experience\, Motivational Talks and Incubation.

SUMMARY:Charity Night Bazaar
DESCRIPTION:Parsi thy name is charity. \nIt was at one of our meetings\, that an idea of a garage sale was proposed as part of our events calendar. \nThe main objective was to enable the youngsters to experience Creating\,\nPlanning and Running a charity event and later\, present their learning’s at a subsequent meeting. \nThe collections from the bazaar would be donated to a Charity of the children’s choice. \nAs the meetings evolved\, with the youngsters accompanied by their parents and the WZCC Committee Members\, the event grew in size to include game stalls and food as well. \nThe Media team of Anahita Jassawala\, Zarin Writer and Navaz Lalkaka\, kept the event alive through the weeks preceding the big day. What made it even better was that we were able to host it at the newly renovated The Lady Jehangir Kothari Memorial Hall. \nZaver Divecha\, who headed the organisation of the Charity Bazar\, has this to say :\n“Great enthusiasm proceeded amongst the garage sale team before the opening of the night bazaar. Many volunteers spent hours sorting through a large number of items such as household goods\, bags\, crockery\, children’s toys as well as many odds and ends generously donated by the community. Close to 300 books were received for the garage sale.\nA very big thank you to Farzeen Daroga \, Shanaz Vakil\, Kashmira Tarapore and Shernaz and Ronny Siganporia\, for tirelessly cleaning\, gift packing\, pricing and cataloguing all these items.” \nThe garage sale turned out to be a big success with most of the items selling out within the first two hours itself. The book section was handled by 12 year youngster \, Umyra Divecha who did a great job of the sales. The real crowning came when the collections were calculated in the garage sale section and the figures brought a big smile on everyone’s faces and made all feel that much was accomplished along with lot of fun laughter and good times. \nIt was not surprising that the food zone would be a hit. Zarine Kharas\, who headed the zone\, reported the following :\n“One would assume that a Parsi would be quite satiated with his home cooked food but apparently not.The array of home-cooked delicacies of Pork Vindaloo\, Sali Murghi\, Wafer-per-Eeda and Dhansak\, were ardently devoured by the crowd of community members that thronged the lower hall of the newly renovated Lady Jehangir Kothari Memorial Hall.\nThe food bazaar zone was a huge hit and most items were sold out in the first hour of opening. All our stalls\, with the exception of two\, sold home-cooked items made by the ladies of our own community. The dessert section sported Choco Chunk Brownies\, Lagan Nu Custard\, Falooda and Ice cream. We also added on a stall by Nossa Goa serving some delicious Goan favourites and fortunately they were able to take on the onslaught of hungry folks once our Pork Vindaloo and Sali Murghi vanished !\nIt was a wonderful feeling to see the kind of footfalls we received and we learned many lessons for our future food bazaars. But the highlight of the evening was the excellent bonhomie between the young and the old members of the Parsi Community and the kind of team spirit that shone through. Here’s to many more successes.” \nTushna Siganporia\, with her budding entrepreneurs\, set up the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) zone consisting of two stalls showcasing 3-D printing and Quilling. Tushnna says \, “The DIY zone gave our young aspiring entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their skill and the experience to sell. The evening was action packed with hard work and fun. Anwita and Trista managed the 3d printed articles stall and sold all the items at their stall. Michelle managed her quilling stall and sold beautiful quilling art envelopes. “The young buds kept their focus\, made their products and sold . .true entrepreneurs in the making. “ \nRoomi Daruwalla\, along with his band of youngsters\, planned and conducted the Games Zone….a mixed bag of activities involving motor skills (yes\, pun intended)\, speed and of course some plain simple luck! The all time favorite game of Skittles titled “KNOCK ‘EM DOWN” saw some healthy participation from both toddlers as well as the teens! The Great Bawa Race also saw a large number of folks queuing up to try their hand at winning the champions trophy (in this case a bar of Gone Wild!)We also had a 1-Minute game involving grams to be transferred from one bowl to the other\, using only a straw\, within a minute! But the surprise package was the “NOSY BAWA” corner where young and old tried to pin the nose onto the Bawa\, beautifully drawn by Tia. Hearty thanks to the entire Malegamvala family for manning the games stall between themselves and some of their young friends! \nMrs. Piroja Mehta donated a painting she had done herself. The same was auctioned brilliantly by Shereyar Vakil for a princely sum of Rs. 10\,000/- that was donated to the Kinder Trust\, run by our very own Diana Bharucha. \nWhat did we achieve? \n* We created an environment that brought the Bangalore Parsi Community together for a noble cause. \n* It was an opportunity for mutual learning between the young and the adult\, coupled with lots of fun and excitement. Of course there were things we could have done better and we are hopeful that we can do this again in a few months\, keeping in mind all the lessons learnt. \n* Most of all it left everyone with a warm feeling of creating new friendships and the joy of working together to get a job well done.

With the courtesy of NAMC\, Ervad Bajan was on a lecture tour starting in Chicago\, then Houston and ending with 3 talks in Southern California. \nErvad Bajan addressed an audience numbering 40+ including businessmen and professionals\, about the virtues of philanthropy. He gave some examples from Zarathushti prayers that emphasize the importance of charity in our daily lives. Quote: “……May charity overcome greediness….. etc.” \nHe also pointed out what our basic prayer clearly spells out that “He who gives assistance to the poor acknowledges the kingdom of God.” \nErvad Bajan went on to deliver two more lectures at the Bhandara Atash Kadeh in Houston over the weekend.\nWZCC- Houston Chapter thanks NAMC for making this event possible.

SUMMARY:Our Second Workshop on Entrepreneurship…
DESCRIPTION:Entrepreneurial Inspiration &  Must Have Skills \n  \nWZCC Toronto and Global Youngpreneurs concluding workshop on introduction to entrepreneurship focused on understanding more in-depth about entrepreneurship and attracting customers. \n  \nAs an inspirational example\, we had Malcolm Mehta\, a 16 year-old social entrepreneur\, studying UK and now in USA who started a football league in a village in India. This made participants realize that age is no hindrance to achieving one’s dreams. Seeing someone so close to their years being successful gives our participants incentive to begin their own entrepreneurial journey. \n  \nIn conjunction with the theme of the session\, tips on getting customers was discussed. These ranged from understanding wants and needs to adding unique elements to the product/service\, to attracting customers via discounts and freebies. This was followed by an activity which tested their business and marketing skills. \n  \nThe second activity was related to logical problem solving\, as it is a must-have skill for entrepreneurs. The youth were placed in an escape room situation\, where they had to solve three puzzles which would then lead them to a code and the escape key. It was a fun and challenging set of quizzes which not only tested their abilities\, but their mettle too. \n  \nBefore ending the workshop\, we recounted the tale of Walt Disney\, and how he established Disney and all its different ventures. \n  \nThe two-part sessions covered the gist of various areas under entrepreneurship. However\, the main aim was to engage our youth with an entrepreneurial mindset\, focus on skills that would help them in the future\, and also to enjoy learning. \n  \nThe Toronto chapter and Global Youngpreneurs will continue giving wings to young dreams and making them a reality.

SUMMARY:Our First Workshop on Introduction To Entrepreneurship
DESCRIPTION:Global Youngpreneurs held their first virtual  Introduction to Entrepreneurship workshop for our youth between the ages of 11 to 15. \n  \nIn a rapidly changing world\, we recognize that the most important skills are logical and creative thinking abilities\, and soft skills and these remain overlooked in our regular education system. WZCC Toronto Chapter worked with Global Youngpreneurs to help develop this entrepreneurial mindset in our youth. \n  \nOur first session (out of the two-part series) focused on developing a “business” through experiential learning. The participants were given an activity and tasked with creating a product/service\, along with the name of the company\, the logo and the slogan. Explanation of  an entrepreneur\, giving examples of different products and services and also real-world logos and slogans helped to make the concept of the activity clearer. Right from Royal Bank of Canada\, to Nike\, the participants were made to understand how the logos and slogans of such companies corresponded to the product or service they offered. In return\, the young participants came up with ideas such as a coffee-flavored soft drinks\, to a dog walking service for the elderly\, with slogans such as “Too good to be true” and “Fancy footwork for four-legged friends.” \n  \nThe second activity was a small team building survival challenge and each team was “stranded” in a particular situation (on an island/on the moon) and each team had to pick few items which would help them survive. This activity successfully tested not only their ability to work in teams – including listening skills\, reasoning skills\, and co-operation\, but also logical and creative problem solving. \n  \nNext they worked on building of entrepreneurial traits such as leadership\, team work\, delegation of work\, and promotion. Participants were asked to come up with ideas for running a food or drink stall while working in teams\, thus inculcating aspects of soft skills. Each team came up with an idea for their own food stall\, the location\, how to sell their product\, and also the tasks that each team member would perform. \n  \nAttentiveness\, enthusiasm\, excitement and participation  was maintained throughout and we couldn’t be more happier with the result. \n  \nEvery participant was pushed to think on their feet\, explore their potential\, and most importantly\, learn and have fun!

SUMMARY:Barbeque and Networking- where every flame tells a story
DESCRIPTION:The WZCC Toronto Chapter organized a barbeque-cum-networking event on Saturday 8 th June\n2024 at the Zoroastrian Society of Ontario in Toronto. The overall event feratured several\nactivities like fun games\, informal networking and sumptous barbeque dinner featuring both\nvegetarian and non-veg delicacies and witnessing a grand turnout of 62 members from across\nthe community.\nThe event commenced with formal registration process where each attendee was given a name\ntag so that other attendees can recognize them and learn more about them as individuals and\nwhat they do professionally. The informal networking during registration set the tone for the\nevening\, transitioning into the first segment of the evening- Speed Networking. The second\nsegment was something many attendees had heard and participated in for the first time and was\nhailed as the best part of the evening- Human Bingo. ‘Attendees were given 25 minutes to\ncomplete this activity and the one to complete it first won a special prize sponsored by WZCC\nToronto Chapter. There was also a door prize giveaway\, the winner for which was chosen by\nspinning a wheel of numbers.\nThe final segment was the one that everyone had been waiting for- the barbeque dinner which\nwas enjoyed by one and all. Informal networking once again took precedence where the\nattendees discussed a little more about some potential business ideas and how they can leverage\nthe WZCC platform to launch and promote their ideas while devouring the burgers and tandoori\nchicken\, fresh off the grill.\nOverall\, all the members who attended the event had a gala time and everyone is excited for\nfuture events as well as the biggest event hosted by the Toronto Chapter- the WZCC Conclave\n2025 to be held in the vibrant city of Toronto from April 29 th – 3 rd May 2025. \nOur Lovely Chefs \n \n  \nSpeed Networking underway \n \nThe Lucky Draw prize winner receiving a wireless Bluetooth speaker from\nDilnavaz Shroff\, Global Director and Cyrus Patel\, Chapter Chair and Director.
